BIOSCOPE heißt das neue, außergewöhnliche Project von Gitarrenlegende Steve Rothery (MARILLION) , dem TANGERINE DREAM Mastermind Thorsten Quaeschning und Schlagzeuger Alex Reeves (ELBOW).

Steve Rothery, Gründungsmitglied der UK Prog-Legende Marillion, dessen Signature Gitarrenarbeit definitiv den Sound des modernen progressive Rock beeinflußt hat und mit ein Grund ist, dass Marillion seit über 45 Jahren und 16 Studioalben immer noch auf dem Peak ihrer Schaffenkraft stehen.

Thorsten Quaeschning, seit dem Tod von Edgar Fröse der musikalische Kopf der Deutschen Elektronik Pioniere Tangerine Dream, der auch international für seine “Real-Time Kompositionen, sowie seinen Film- und Spielkonsolen Soundtracks geschätzt wird.

Alex Reeves, Schlagzeuger der britischen Alternative Rockband ELBOW und Session-Musiker für diverse internationale Produktionen ist bekannt für seine experimentellen Drumloops.

Zusammen bringen die drei Dekaden musikalischer Erfahrung, Können und Leidenschaft in BIOSCOPE ein. Dabei ist diese Zusammenarbeit nicht einfach eine Fusion ihrer sehr unterschiedlichen Stile. Es fühlt sich an wie ein Dialog, der beiden Stile von Rothery und Quaeschning, für den Reeves mit seinem Können die Würze zu einem großem Ganzen liefert.
Das sehr beindruckende Debut Album “Gentō”, erscheint am 22 August 2025 bei earMUSIC.

Bioscope are Steve Rothery, founding member and guitarist of Marillion, whose melodic playing helped define the sound of modern progressive rock and led to millions of records sold and Thorsten Quaeschning, musical director of Tangerine Dream, credited on over 80 releases and internationally known for his work on film and game soundtracks, real-time composition, and electronic music innovation. Together, they bring decades of musical experience to a project that feels both intimate and expansive. Rothery’s guitar lines speak with emotional clarity, while Quaeschning’s detailed sound design shapes the music’s internal architecture.

Their collaboration is not just a fusion of styles, but a thoughtful dialogue between two established musical identities – a true “bioscope” in the sense of offering a view of life through music.

The name Bioscope comes from the Greek bios (life) and skopeein (to look). Before cinema, it meant “a view or survey of life” – a fitting metaphor for a project that turns musical experience into shared perception.

Their debut album “Gentō”, out on 22 August 2025 on earMUSIC, offers a deeply atmospheric journey where two distinct musical worlds converge. The album features an extraordinary performance by Elbow’s drummer Alex Reeves, whose rhythmic finesse and musical intuition bring depth and subtle momentum to the entire album.
